Paper Abstract:      This work presents an experiment conducted in a post graduation course that combined an open and distributed web setting with the principles of connectivism and distributed cognition. It reinforces the belief that when merged with innovative pedagogical practices, the use of open social web tools as a means to mediate and support education can contribute to the process of gaining new knowledge, skills or attitudes. The majority of students attending the course were in-service teachers and findings show the integration and use of such tools during the course in question allowed them to acquire and develop important technological and professional skills. We present the framework underlying the course as well as the background of the study and the methodology used. We will also reflect upon the potentialities of the tools and strategies used and draw some conclusions.
